SEEING THINGS THROUGH
FROM CONCEPT TO CREATIONBordoli Kiflai – The skills that I have developed from my leadership studies, work experience in financial administration, entrepreneurial and volunteer activities support the tagline: proven, innovative and self-motivated.
Interpersonal – By allowing me to work with diverse groups of people including students, faculty, and fellow administrators; my experience in the accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial management departments of well-respected institutions has enabled be to build and retain healthy business relationships founded on respect, empathy and teamwork.
Financial Acumen – From third party billing for a wide array of programs; to coordinating with collection agencies regarding delinquent payments; to managing the grant pre-award process; to budgeting as part of a team; to account management (both C&G and non-C&G accounts); to furnishing Excel-based financial statements, I’ve expanded on my ability to understand and apply financial accounting principles.
Problem-solving – Using appropriately placed queries and strong expertise in Excel, I’ve created user friendly templates to standardize a manual billing system for myself and trained others on its use; created a digital accounts payable document for cross-referencing accounts were there were none; and made vast improvements in automation of inherited financial statement templates. Investment in these process improvements served as considerable time-saving measures and have vastly improved work-flow efficiency.
Community Service – In addition to providing my valued services in financial administration, I have also been able to apply my strong communication abilities while doing volunteer work in the youth department within the National Council of Eritrean Americans (NCEA). Doing volunteer work in a close-knit community has given me supreme satisfaction. I hope to be in position to improve the communities to which I belong.
Organizational Leadership – My community service activities combined with an advanced degree has helped me further develop self-awareness and is instrumental in the shaping of my identity. With this as a driving force, I had established a networking platform – Eritrean Diaspora Entertainment Network (EDEN) – to help spur collaboration of small businesses and entrepreneurs; gaining practical business knowledge, especially in the fields of strategic thinking and networking.
Creative – Outside of work life, I have a passion for film production – from concept to creation; that is (for me), from the script concept to video editing. In my spare time, I continue to work on writing my high-concept scripts that are thought-provoking and idea-driven.
